I just wanted everyone to know, that two small rock chips in my 1988 Chevy 1500 pickup was going to cost me $90 to repair….and I got a replacement windshield installed for $135!
It even has the shade at the top of the windshield like my old one did…I am amazed at how scratched and glazed over the old glass looks compared to the cheap new one.
Shop around before you just repair your rock chips!

Does the shading at the top of the windshield that comes from the factory also come along with those after market windshields?

You can buy an after market windshield with no shading at the top…although you really dont want to do that. And you can also buy the replacement windshield with light, medium and factory type shade density. So the choice is up to you, more shade usually costs more but worth it in my opinion. It really helps to cut the sun’s glare in your eyes!

The average windshield rock chip repair will cost you about $40, and $85 for a mobile service to come to you and repair it. I would not recommend you use one of those free windshield repair services though, they file a claim on your auto insurance and this claim….although small COULD cause your rates to increase. I would pay for this repair out of pocket.

Reader Question Does anyone know what I should pay for a new replacement windshield for my 1992 Chevy truck? I need a cheap one, but a good one that won’t leak or fall out while I am driving. that happened to a friend of mine once.

Jeff, get a quote man, its free and there are no obligations what so ever. Prices will vary depending on your location, but I would guess $225 installed would be a good price for a Chevy truck replacement windshield. Have a great day….

Josh, you are not going to be able to repair this cracked windshield my friend. Get a free quote on a new windshield, they are not as expensive as you think they are.

Reader Input I was surfing online as I normally do, and found this site. I did get a quote from the banner listed on this page and found a company that I had contacted by telephone last week….their price was lower today.
I called them and asked them why the $55 price drop in a week? They said they have special pricing agreements with this site and offer a discount via that banner. I am not sure why they would do that, seems it would cost them more money, but I did get my windshield installed for the lower price…..so it pays to shop around. Thanks for this service you are offering for free.

Reader Question: I need a cheap replacement windshield for my car….2002 Honda Accord. Do these replacement type windshields offer the same safety protection as a genuine Honda replacement windshield?

Hi Chris, from what I have read, these replacement car windshields have to undergo some tough safety testing before they can be sold to the public. I am not an expert obviously, but I do not feel these replacement windshields are a safety issue. By all means ask the installer for their opinion on this matter before you install one.

Reader Question How did you guys get comparison rate quotes on auto glass and windshields? is there a list of windshield replacement companies or something that you used? I have a 2001 Chevy truck that needs a new windshield and I am on a super tight budget, any help will be appreciated.

Welcome Henry. make your quote search easy and use the banner on this site to get comparison quotes in your area. its about the easiest way I know of to shop for auto glass. just enter your zip, and select the make and model of your truck and thats it. You will see a list of auto glass companies within 20 miles of your zip code, with prices. Most if not all of them offer free mobile installation. I would expect to pay about $169 for a Chevy truck replacement windshield.

Reader Question Does anyone have a suggestion for a cheap BMW replacement windshield? The dealership wants an arm and a leg for a new one, so I was hoping to find an aftermarket replacement windshield.

Hey there, I would definitely stay clear of the BMW dealership for a new windshield…they are way to proud of their auto glass. I was able to get a BMW replacement windshield for my 2007 Z3, and it only cost me $489 with free installation, which was nice. I am in Miami, so the guys I used will not help you in Houston, but I see banners for glass.net on this site…and I hear they are a great place to start your quote search.

Reader Question I guess I am the lucky one on this site. My Ford F150 windshield was hit with a small rock the other day, and my mechanic told me that it was too large of a crack to repair….but I took it to Deep Ellum auto glass in Dallas, TX and they were able to repair it without a problem.
