How Does Cracked Windshield Repair Work?
April 29th, 2008
Reader Question How does one repair a cracked windshield anyway? I bought some repair kit at the auto parts store the other day but it did not work like it was advertised.

Windshield Repair is a process that utilizes modern technology to repair damaged windshield glass. Unlike windshield replacement, Windshield Repair preserves the integrity of the factory seal on the windshield, making it a more cost effective solution for your customers.
Windshield repair is a process that combines modern technology and skill to fill a damaged area on a windshield with special clear adhesive resin.
The resin is then cured with an ultraviolet light. Windshield repair is much cheaper than windshield replacement. You’ll save money – $55.00 for the 1st rock chip and $30.00 for each additional rock chip on the same windshield. I DO NOT however recommend those $10 repair kits you can buy at your local auto parts store, there are professional version of the kit you can order online but they obviously cost much more.

In my 20 years as an installer and now shop owner, I have found that cheap is delivered by installers with little or no concern for those who will ride in the car or have to repair the rust later down the road. Also safe drive times are ignored by using cheap urethanes with little or no primer.
